Season 191 Season 193

Season 192 of the S.C.S.L. kicked off with the Summer Cup, and Rangers started their season off with a bang, winning a thrilling final 5—3, after extra time.

In the League, Rangers won their first 18 matches in a row, and were unbeaten for 20 matches until they lost 4—2 at Celtic. They only lost one further game, however (2—1 at St Johnstone), and attained an impressive 80 points from 90. In all they only lost 3 games all season, just missing out on the treble by losing the Albion Cup final to Celtic by a score of 2—0. It was Rangers' 35th title, leaving them just one behind Celtic in the overall table. Motherwell took 3rd place and Hibs secured a European place by finishing 4th.

At the bottom end, it was a battle between Hearts, who looked doomed well before the end of the season, Raith Rovers, Hamilton and Ayr United. Hearts, however, managed to pull themselves out of the relegation zone at the very end, Raith Rovers were doomed to the drop and it was between Ayr and Hamilton on the final day. Ayr lost heavily to Motherwell, 2—5 and Hamilton just needed a point at home to Kilmarnock. However, Killie won 2—1 and helped their Ayrshire rivals remain in the top tier for another season.

In Division B, the race was dominated by Arbroath, who eventually won the title with a very good total of 69 points. The race to accompany them was fought closely by Ross County, Dumbarton, Queen of the South and Clyde. In the end, Clyde were the surprise second-placed team, helped by a 2—2 home draw against Ross County, which if they had lost it would have tipped the scales to the Highland team. It was a very close thing as Clyde finished just 2 points ahead of the other three teams in the final reckoning.

At the bottom of Division B, Partick Thistle and Airdrie seemed to be the likely candidates for the drop, but Partick picked up form towards the end of the season. East Fife were the eventual companions to accompany Airdrie into Division C. They will be replaced by Stranraer and Queen's Park.
