Season 190 Season 192

Season 191 of the S.C.S.L. began with the Summer Cup, which was contested by Motherwell and Celtic for the second season in a row. Motherwell retained the trophy with a 2—1 victory.

Celtic won the Division A title, their 36th title overall. They were the most consistent team and had built up an 8-point lead by the halfway stage of the season. They held onto this lead until the end of the season, finishing on 66 points. Rangers, in second place, finished on 56 points. Aberdeen, despite a poor season, managed to sneak into third place on the final day of the season after Dundee United and St Mirren finished poorly. Rangers and Aberdeen therefore clinch places in the Euro Cup, with the Albion Cup winners taking the final berth.

Newly promoted Morton had a fantastic season, and finished in a very creditable 7th place, whereas the other promoted team, Dunfermline, had a terrible season and went straight back to the B Division. Ayr United survived another season leaving Dundee as the other team to be relegated.

In the B Division, Alloa were the surprise winners. They were sitting just behind Raith Rovers until the halfway stage, where they took over the lead and never looked back. Raith held off challenges from Arbroath and Inverness to go straight back up to the A Division. At the bottom end, Forfar ended up being relegated for the second season in a row, a rather unfortunate outcome for them having only been relegated last season due to the reconstruction of the top division.

Ross County were the surprise winners of the Albion Cup, following their relegation to Division B last season and a dimsal start to this season. They only finished 8th in Division B but did have a relatively easy passage in the cup and a lot of the top oppostion were eliminated in other ties. In the Second Round they faced division rivals, Elgin City, and beat them narrowly 1—0. They then had Division C opponents in Edinburgh City, who they overwhelmed by a score of 7—1. Their first Division A opponents were lowly Dundee, and they beat them 1—0 in a replay, then it was back to Division B opposition again in the Quarter-Finals as they took on Forfar, who were bottom of the division. A 2—1 victory over the Angus men took them to their first tie against serious opposition against Motherwell. They won this narrowly 1—0 and so it was on to the final against Hibs. This finished 2—2 at full time but the Staggies scored 2 extra time goals to Hibs' 1 and won the match 4—3 and clinched a place in next season's Euro Cup.
